This year we celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, on April 23rd (he died on the  April 23rd of 1616), supposedly the same day of his birth, when he was 52. For the 400th anniversary of his death people has organized a lot of cultural activities.

#stratford-upon-avon
William was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a village located in the South of Birmingham, in United Kingdom. Shakespeare lived there when he was little and at the end of his life. Now, Stratford-upon-Avon has arround 24.000 residents. It is a touristic attraction because of all related with Shakespeare: where he lived, a museum...

#annehathaway
 She was William's wife, and she was eight years older than him. It seems that they didn't do a good couple; they lived separated for long times. They had a daughter, and later they had twins (one of them died when he was only 11). 

#theglobe
The Globe theatre is a theatre where Shakespeare worked. It was near the River Thames, and it was built in 1599.Shakespeare was the owner of part of the theater too. The theater was big: it had space enough for 3300 spectators.
#plays
 Shakespeare wrote a lot of plays, like Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice... one of the most popular of his plays is the romantic story of Romeo and Juliet, a sory about two lovers and their impossible love.
#plague
The plague of the 19th century killed a lot of people. It was originated in Asia and  it extended to so many countries. Because of the plague, the theaters of London closed for a couple of years, and in those two years Shakespeare wrote sonnets and more poetry.

In this year, Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy. It is a story of two star-crossed lovers, they could not get married because their families were enemies. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays of all times, and one of the Shakespeare's more known plays.

Elizabeth I of England was the queen of England from 17th November of 1558 to 24th March of 1603. He was also known as the Virgin Queen, Gloriana or Good Queen Bess. During her reign, England became the leading Protestant country in Europe.

#thearmada
 The Armada was an enormous spanish militar fleet that was sended to attack England with the support of the catholic contries, because of his war against the protestant contries. The Armada failed because of the bad weather and the tactics of the small English fleet.
